Sneak Peek of LNR

My book is FAR from where its final draft and I love sharing my work and seeing how it fairs in the eyes of others. There are pages I definitely know need to be deleted and/or reworded but I don’t hate the whole book (thankfully) and thought I’d share a snippet of what happens. Maybe this sneak look will garner attention and an agent will love my work and want to sign with me and then a publisher will also be like omg Talia is the real deal and the stars will align and life will just make sense again...probably none of that will happen and I’m certainly getting ahead of myself but no harm in hoping. And definitely no harm letting you enjoy a peek!

Feel free to share it with your friends and your enemies. My current book title is [redacted] but we’ll call her LNR for now.

“This is weird. Being here like this in your house.” Safiyyah says.

Aayan chuckles, “Well, you’re here. So, what are we to discuss?”

“Why are you doing this?” She asks practically before he’s finished speaking.

Aayan rakes a hand through his waves of hair and shrugs, “I don’t really know.” A lot of emotions were jumbled through him when she had said she was leaving and it felt right to offer to help. “Alina said I should help you. And my parents too actually.”

“If you want to back out, I wouldn’t hold it against you. At all.”

“No. No.” The knot that had made it’s first appearance when she said she was leaving was returning, “I want to help you.”

“Right.” Safiyyah looks hard at her interlaced hands, “I’m not going to be the one to stop this because I really want to say so fucking bad and I hate the thought of leaving California. So, if you don’t want to get entangled in the mess of a muta’h you should tell me now and I’ll leave. No hard feelings.”

“Safiyyah, look at me.” Her lashes flutter and he loses focus for a second, “Uh.” Her eyebrow raises and it’s enough to snap him back into reality, “I’m not going to back out of this. I think you are super passionate about what you want to do and I want to support that.”

“Thank you.” She says.

“Don’t mention it.”

“We should go talk to my parents. I was going to call them but then thought I should let you confirm first.” She bites her lip, “Are you okay with coming with me to talk to them?”

“Yeah. It’s no problem. Did you drive here?” He asks.

“We all carpooled to brunch. They dropped me off at your place.”

“That’s nice. We’ll take my car.” They stand up and he grabs his keys from the glass bowl on the table right beside the door. He tugs at the collar of his shirt, “I don’t need to change for the occasion, do I?”

She shakes her head, “I don’t know. I’ve never done this before.” They both laugh and he notices she’s in a similar outfit as him. Dark jeans and a nice top. He quickly looks away and she follows him to the car.

“Nice car,” Safiyyah says as she slides onto the synthetic leather seat.

He clicks on the ignition, “Thanks. It was my dad’s.”

“He just gave you a car?”

“Well, he bought himself a Tesla and decided to just give me his.” He shrugs, “So I sold my Honda Civic and took the upgrade.”

“Lucky you.”

“I guess.” He shrugs, “I don’t really spend much time thinking about my car.”

“I have a Prius.” She states.

“Did you buy it yourself?”

She grins, “Nope. My dad helped me.”

“Did he give it to you to buy a Tesla?”

“He bought it for both of us. He takes the bus for work, but sometimes needs the car.” She says.

“Well, may as well leech off our father’s until they stop offering.”

She nods, “Well the Prius is from 2015 so this was back when I was in college still. I couldn’t afford a car.”

He nods, “I got my Honda in college. I was working every second I wasn’t studying to buy her.”

“I can’t imagine you had much free time.”

He laughs, “I had no life. But it’s fine, I got a Mercedes in the end.”

“No life?” She points out the turn he needs to take and adds, “You loved being all about life as a kid.”

“And you used to like kicking people.” He glances over at her, “Do you still do that?”

“No, but those are very different things.”

He shrugs, “I mean I love going out but I don’t have the time. I’m tired a lot of the time. Brunch today was the first in a while.”

“You doing this for company at home then?” Her face blushes, “That sounded bad. That’s not–“

He chuckles, “Don’t worry about how that sounded. Alina lives with me, so I never feel starved of human interaction.”

“That’s good.” She rummages in her purse, “Do you think Alina will be okay with all this?”

“I told you my whole family said I should help you.”

“But they didn’t mean like this, I’m sure.”

“Maybe not, but it’s the only way to help, right?”

“Right.” He pulls up in front of her house and she unclips her seatbelt, “Here goes nothing.”

So, even as I’m posting this I know what I’m going to change in this scene but hey enjoy for now and maybe you’ll be getting a post notification one day about this story being signed for publication. (*fingers crossed* aka iA)

Tata for now!

PS If you can’t tell I’ve been so swamped and unfortunately I’ll be posting a little less regularly for the rest of the year. That’s what three part time jobs and living at home as the eldest child does to a girl 🤷🏽‍♀️ but it’ll take a lot more than that for me to forget about the blog.
